SAN MARCOS MAIN STREET PROGRAM
TEXAS DOWNTOWN ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE
During my Public Relations Campaign class, we were able to work side by side with the San Marcos Main Street Program to curate the TDA's annual conference. Our fictitious public relations agency, Marcos Strategies, completed primary and secondary research in order to create the final campaign pitch found below.
Create a campaign with the goal of getting conference members to visit and shop local businesses in downtown San Marcos.
THE TEXAS DOWNTOWN ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE MEMBERS
Individuals who have a strong appreciation for the history of a city as well as the local businesses within them. Members will be attending seminars while at the conference and will need fun outlets once the seminars are over.
HOW CAN THIS BENEFIT ALL PARTIES INVOLVED?
By surrounding, the events with local businesses conference members will be encouraged to shop and eat locally. BUT encouraging them to maybe check out a store wasn't good enough for Marcos Strategies. Instead, we created a week-long scavenger hunt conference members can partake in throughout the week with the chance to win the grand prize!
ARE YOU EXCITED YET?
WE KNOW WE ARE!
conference members will receive a pamphlet explaining the rules of the game, as well as a map highlighting the local businesses.
THROUGHOUT THE CONFERENCE,
members are encouraged to visit the highlighted areas on the map for the chance to win a prize at the end of the conference. How will they win you might ask? Outside each highlighted spot there will be a QR code, upon scanning the QR code you will see three things,
1. The history of the historical marker, or businesses
2. A place to put your name
3. An incentive on how to get your name in the raffle.
There are various incentives that can be used for the game such as, posting a pic with the historical marker and using #TDASMTX2022, or finishing a Manske roll and tagging the location and hashtag #TDASMTX2022. The possibilities are endless, and so is the free advisement San Marcos’s local business will get.
was by incorporating conference members' interest as well as some friendly competition we could ensure they would shop and eat locally. Leaving conference members as well as participating local businesses happy.
